When individuals or organizations seek a building permit, they need to submit construction drawings to the local government.

The method of submitting drawings and the location where the drawings are stored will vary greatly between municipalities. For the purposes of this course, we will simply refer to the place where drawings are stored as your Document Management System. However, what remains consistent across all municipalities is the presence of guidelines that instruct applicants on what needs to be submitted and how they should organize and prepare their materials before submission. For example, they may require that all digital drawings are oriented in the same way.
